Mother/Daughter Day

Kelly and I both took today off from work for a Mother/Daughter Day so we could go do some furniture shopping now that her house is nearly ready to be moved into.

Our first stop was her house to take some measurements in the dining room and living room since those were the two rooms we were concentrating on today. Her office/library upstairs is next on the to-be-painted list, so we skipped furniture for that room for the time being.

Measurements in hand we went to Granby, CT where I found some medium red beads to wind through the greens on her staircase railing. Then we went furniture shopping, taking measurements and pictures of pieces that she liked. She had bought her dining room table and chairs in this store back in 2014 when she was close to moving into an apartment in Leominster when she was working in Littleton, MA. That furniture has been in our basement and garage for almost five years! It's now in her house and looks great, so she was in search of additional pieces for the dining room that would go with it. We walked all around the store measuring furniture and taking pictures of pieces that she liked that would go with her dining room set, but she didn't buy anything there.

We had lunch at Village Pizza in Southwick and then went to the Country Colonial Shop where they had some of the same pieces she'd looked at in Granby. She decided to buy the large hutch, the corner cabinet/cupboard, and the small secretary desk which made the sales ladies happy with a big sale on a Tuesday. The items are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow! That was quick!

We then went to Pieroway's in West Springfield because she hadn't found a couch she was happy with. She looked at a sectional, but then found a sofa and a loveseat that she liked which would allow her more furniture moving flexibility than the sectional. I don't think the young man who introduced himself and said he'd be happy to help her believed she wad actually going to buy anything. Kelly looks like she's much younger than she really is. When she went to get him to discuss fabric options he seemed a little flustered, but told her what her options were and then left her to pick a fabric and another for the throw pillows. She put together a nice medium gray choice for the couch and loveseat fabric, and then chose a bold patterned print with crimson and gray, black and beige in it for the throw pillows. He was surprised by her choices and told her she had put together a knockout combination. When she said she was ready to buy today he was flustered, but quickly got her order written up. she should have her couch and loveseat in 4-6 weeks, which is fine. There's some painting that needs to be done, and now she's decided she does want a TV, so the little 19" she had in her dorm room is not big enough. That'll be next on her list- a large flat screen on a stand and a table to put it on or an entertainment center that goes with her other furniture on the first floor.

She also didn't find a 32" microwave cart or hutch for beside her stove.

It was 4PM when we swung through Big Y to pick up the makings of American chop suey for her potluck dinner at work tomorrow.

Needless to say, she's sort of in a state of shock by how much money she so easily dropped today, but once she sees the furniture in her house she'll be happy and forget the money she's spent. (I probably should mention here that, like her father, she hates to spend money, but like her mother she has the ability to be decisive about her purchases and makes them when she sets her mind to it.

It was a fun day out with Kelly. I picked up a few small Christmas gifts, and a fluffy, little, white owl for myself. I did NOT get the Felix the cat lamp I saw in the warehouse barn in Granby even though it was rather awesome! I did bring home two pictures of it on my phone however. When I showed John, he just rolled his eyes. (The last time I brought a lamp home from there it had a camel on the base and the shade had dangling beads. It's still on the end table in the living room :)!!)
